On the Road!

Published March 4, 2016 by Harri

Today saw me sitting behind the wheel of a Renault Clio for my first driving lesson!  My instructor, J, is bloody lovely. She was so relaxed and chilled about everything. First thing we did, was talk about the car, what the parts did and why. How and why we moved, what I needed to do before pulling away, then I drove!

I pulled away from the kerb and when it was safe for me to do so, I pulled back into the kerb. I did a couple of laps of the Industrial Estate we were on and some left turns and right turns, with proper traffic (it starts getting really busy around 1430 ish!), I also went around some roundabouts! I didn’t stall, although I am a little heavier on her brake, so mastering a nice gentle stop will take some time.

I shit bricks and got a bit panicky, worrying about the million and one things that could go wrong with me at the wheel of the car, but J talked me down and told me that everything will be fine. Regardless of what happens, there will be a discussion and a briefing after everything.

The only thing now, is making sure I don’t rush myself and try to run before I can crawl!

All in all, it was a bloody good lesson. I can’t wait for my second lesson next week! So excited about all this!
